Localization: Situated South of Minas Gerais 246 km from Rio de Janeiro and 296 km from São Paulo, all its territory is inside of preserved areas: APA of the Mantiqueira, National Park of the Itatiaia and State Park Serra do Papagaio

History: Small and charming city in the heart of the Mountain Range of the Mantiqueira, for where passed some bandeirantes in its movements of knowledge of the interior and search of metals and precious rocks. It served as landing for important historical personages as D. Pedro II, Princess Isabel, Conde d `Eu, among others.

Geography: With an altitude that varies from 900m to 2791m (Pico dsa Agulhas Negras) with a vegetation of tropical forest with pasture areas. Here are found the two higher springs of Brazil (Aiuruoca River and Capivari River). It belongs to the Circuit of High Lands of the Mantiqueira, limiting itself with the states of São Paulo and Rio De Janeiro

Climate: It presents tropical climate of altitude with rigorous winter .
